Persian violet (Exacum affine) is an attractive perennial with bluish, star-shaped flowers and shiny, green leaves. The plant has a great mounding growth habit that will brighten up any surface. Sweet-scented, star-shaped flowers with yellow stamens are held above inch-long, egg-shaped leaves.
Provide exacum bright indoor light, but not full midday sun. They love southern or western exposures where they can get late-afternoon, strong sunlight. The more sun exposure they get, the more water they will require. A light, fast-draining potting soil is perfect for exacum. You can use fortified soils. Keep the soil continuously moist, never allowing it to dry out. In drier homes, mist weekly to increase ambient humidity. Hardiness zones range from 5-11.
