Buddleia, also known as the "butterfly bush", is a beautiful, fast-growing, deciduous shrub with masses of blossoms displaying in long, spiked trusses. It is a popular houseplant due to its attractiveness to butterflies and hummingbirds. These plants are rich in nectar and strongly scented. Colors range from magenta to purple.
Buddleias need full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Water freely when in growth and sparingly otherwise. Buddleias are drought-tolerant and can be grown without much supplemental watering once established. Since they bloom on new wood, even if there is no die-back, cut them back to the ground every spring. Hardiness zones range from 5-10.
